Patient Care Technician Training Program

Morton Plant Hospital & UMA Training Program

Morton Plant Hospital is partnering with Ultimate Medical Academy (UMA) to provide paid training to become a Patient Care Technician. Students will begin working and training at a Morton Plant Hospital as a Nurse Helper, supporting the skilled nursing rehab team under the direction of an RN. Students will also enroll at UMA for the 6-week CNA training program. During the program, students will be required to work 1 shift per week as a Nurse Helper on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. UMA students are also required to attend classes Monday through Thursday. After successful completion of the UMA program, students will be promoted to a full-time Patient Care Technician (PCT) position at Morton Plant Hospital!

Candidates must agree to work 1 year as a full time Patient Care Technician (PCT) upon program completion.

Nurse Helper Job Summary:

The Nurse Helper I is a non-clinical member of the healthcare team who assists the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care according to BayCare role specific responsibilities. Directed by the RN. The Nurse Helper I assists with patient care without encountering any body fluids (i.e., blood, urine, stool, saliva, dirty linens, emesis, etc.) or any devices that contain body fluids (such as but not limited to, urinary catheters, nasogastric tubes, drains, used basins, etc.). Must complete Nurse Helper training class prior to orientation on the nursing unit. Requires completion of BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 30 days of hire. Standard WELLE® training is required.
